Were you glad to get off disability and why?
I've read stories on WP "glad to get off disability" or OMG! I would never get on it OMG!
Why do you feel this way?
I've been taken off of it after 8 years and am scared to DEATH! I'm in the U.S. and can do medicaid and food stamps sure but no minimum wage job is going to get me up to $730 a month not to mention having Asperger's which for me is anxiety/stress/depression. NO WORK EXPERIENCE in my life outside of a 3 month Mcdonald's before the disability started which for me created anxiety/stress/depression (part time 3 day a week I'd come home GO TO BED Depressed!) Wake up go to work the next day. That past experience has scared me when it comes to finding a job. I did get a Bachelors in Criminal Justice from 2010-2014 but with no work experience AT ALL my mom feels I wouldn't even get hired in my field!
I'm not sure I could manage part time again or even full time (to make income expectations.) I DO NOT want to do Full time or even part time and be less than the above and come home stressed/anxiety/depression and not much financially to show for it?
My mom suggests if meltdown can't handle a job reapply but sadly that'd be another 2 years of waiting.
What's the benefit of no disability? If I can't even GET a job in my field CJ???? SHEESH!! !! ! Hell not expecting much! Even Florida minimum wage $8 an hour for starting out at a Criminal Justice job specifically but atleast at a CJ job it'd be a CAREER and you work your way up vs. a Walmart or other retail job where you are stuck. Please help me see the positive because I'm not seeing ANY! ![]()
Thanks
Do you really get $730 a month? So 730 x 12 months is 8760. 8760/52 weeks is 168.46. 168.46/40 hour work week is 4.21 an hour. According to the math you would be better off financially with a 40 hour a week minimum wage job. Most minimum wage jobs are no brainer and no stress. With time, you would most likely get a raise.

That's a joke, right? Most minimum wage jobs are service industry, which means customers, which means socializing nonstop with people all day, which is nothing but stress.
ZP, are you still living with your parents? If your family is supporting you, the gov't probably felt you didn't need disability to survive.

My advice would be to find a case manager through MA who can help you get back on disability if you feel you are unable to work. For now, you could get welfare if you report on the forms that your parents expect you to pay rent. You used your disability money to contribute, right?
After 20+ years of getting various degrees and certifications, getting jobs and being fired again, and needing to take handfuls of pills to deal with the stress of working (at any job) -- I was more than delighted to finally get on disability and be able to take my dog for walks along the lake during the day.

I got a bachelors in Criminal Justice 100% ONLINE but since I could do that I could handle making a routine/schedule and doing a degree = basic reading writing skills they didn't seem to care the 100% ONLINE part!! !! Just the you can get a degree you can function socially was there view of the case.
If I get more Aid (doubtful) for college I may try for accounting or computers more non social Aspie type fields. Even a loan FINE! Maybe Part time grocer to pay for it and loan money as a cushion until I find a part time job! WOW! This is hard and stressful!! !!
I was disabled since I was a child but then BAM! Taken off a 18. (no idea why a government error). I SHOULD HAVE just been put on disability from then onward but wasn't. We fought for 3 years going down to the office UGH! a lawyer etc. So at 21 I was FINALLY able to get it starting Nov. 2006. In Nov. 2012 they reviewed my case and determined me NOT disabled. We did an appeal and saw a court lady May 2013 still NO then FINALLY judge appeal and saw Judge Feb. 2015 As of April 2015 NO I can go work. I can function socially enough to get a degree plus basic reading/writing skills (Despite the degree being 100% ONLINE!) So they said I could go get a job now.
Most judges and the legal system don't look at I was disabled from birth they focus on my Bipolar 2 Disability diagnosis from 06 onward dismissing practically ALL the disability from birth (No idea why STUPID IDIOTS!)
As my mom puts it maybe try part time and if I last a week/month at least it'd look good that "hey she really COULDN'T HOLD DOWN A JOB! OMG!"
