Hi

When I get a message from my bosses, I usually feel a sense of dread come over me. It feels like I am always expecting the worse. Any advice on stopping it?

I feel the same way.

The best thing to do is always dot your eyes, and cross your tees. And also mind your pees and cues.

Just make sure your work is accurate.

What do you do?

It seems to me that all you have to do is to make sure your software is working properly.

Am I right?

I try to; I'm so hardcore in testing my software that they ask me to also test my colleagues' software. But, there is sometimes scenarios that I don't think of testing so a few bugs get through. On top of that, since I am server custodian, there is also the fear that my servers get hacked.

This used to happen to my husband. He's a system admin for a largish organization. So a lot of expensive servers and important systems are his responsibility and no one else knows how to fix them if something goes wrong. Some of his stress went away when he put in a request for a very expensive backup and it was approved, so now he knows if one of the big servers fails, it's not as much of a disaster.

But this is the other thing that made his life a lot easier: You have to let some people be stupid. They're going to tell you to do stupid things and they will not understand when you try to tell them no, that's not going to work. It is the NATURE of being autistic to see mistakes glaring out at you and want to fix them. But sometimes you have to just say, "Okay. Whatever you want." And make whatever they want in whatever stupid form they have requested.

And you gotta watch that workhorse situation. People will pile all their responsibilities on you just because you CAN do them. That's not fair. If you're going to do that, ask for a raise and a title adjustment. To a Senior Developer if you're not already. Or a Software Architect. Neither of those titles have direct reports.
