This is not particularly an aspie question and in fact they might appreciate and aspie on a job like this which involves studying birds outdoors. The problem is that I've had past jobs similar to this one that I now have an interview for but those past jobs I was able to do because the study sites were easily accessible and I was able to do them without walking a very long distance. But an earlier job that I tried I was fired from because the job involves a lot of hiking and I was unable to do it. Now I applied for this job and I won a phone interview but I'm wondering when is the correct time to reveal that I might have a hard time hiking because I don't want to get hired for a job and then find out later that I really can't do it.

I would say do a practice run, just walk to the study site before you get the job to see if you can do it regularly.

Not possible, I don't have a car and this place is out of state. (Job provides housing and vehicle when hired, I do have a license)

Other problem, my medication! I don't know how medicaid and ssi is going to handle a 4 month job that makes over the limits for those programs out of state... I might have to make calls on Monday to ask.

Couldn't you ask what the routes you might have to walk are during the phone interview? Their distance and difficulty? Don't be honest about your intentions here, just pose it as a general job-related question, or even pretend you're actually interested in hiking.

I wouldn't be frank with them about this being a problem, as it might put you on the backfoot for similar jobs at the same firm? If the job isn't for you, give them a vague reason like you got a better offer elsewhere, and leave it at that?
