Would this hurt my chances of getting the job?

I finally seem to have gotten a break and got an interview with a company in my field. They had me do a project that is due tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. Today, at 5:10 p.m., I submitted it. It was pretty good. However, I noticed at 9 or so tonight that I could improve the footer on the website they sent me to design and so did, plus added a few other minor tweaks. Sent it again a 2nd time, telling them to ignore the 1st email.

I'm not sure if they'll hold it against me that I sent it twice (I just wanted it to look good and so wanted to make it even better than the 1st time. The 1st one had, though not major, a thing that looked a tiny bit silly, as I had the copyright thing for the site they were making me do in the footer, but no company. I didn't even have to have a footer, but put one to make it look nice.

I think you did the right thing. I hope they will ignore your first email and read the second one. But I don't know.

Don't finish work too early. You had plenty of time, so the next time it happens: Use the time you have. If you think you are done, test your work over and over.

You sound pretty competent. I hope they hire you.
