Noncompetitive hiring for those with disabilities
So I've heard that the U.S. government has an alternative noncompetitive hiring process for those with disabilities(like Asperger's). This is known as Schedule A, and I was wondering if anybody has used this to get a job before?

I've never heard of it, but sounds like something worth looking into. I am on SSI right now but am trying to figure out a way to transition at least into doing some work and just getting less SSI income or maybe totally get off the SSI as I am doing well enough I may be able to handle it now.

Basically if you go under schedule A, that means your application is looked at the person that is doing the hiring if you meet basic qualifications, even if your application normally wouldnt get that far because other people outcompete you. I got a job with this once, but i declined the offer because of various reasons.

I recommend DVR (department of vocational rehabilitation services), every state has their own department. It is a long process though, just a heads up. It helped me quite a bit though.
Also I recommend utilizing your state's WorkSource/unemployment office. Washington WorkSource has a lot of really useful classes and resources like internships for displaced youth (18-24) and other resources for older people. There's also job fairs, people who will work directly with you, etc. And this is just in my dinky area.
I don't know how either service in your state compares. Obviously it varies from state to state and even area to area with states.

To go thorough schedule A, get a letter from a doctor or a voc. Rehab. Person that lists what you are diagnosed with. Scan it and send it with your job application, and contact the person listed on the job announcement you wish to apply schedule a.
