So the university outsources their hospitality services to this worldwide company. Well they held a job fair today and I went.
Prior to going I checked them out on their website and they have quite a bit about supporting people with disabilities, which is encouraging.
I've never attended a job fair before and it was interesting. First they greet you and give you a clipboard with a form and number on it. I waited for my number to come up and filled out the form. Took about 25 minutes. Then I met with a lady from the company and had I guess what is a screening interview. I told her about my back and that I couldn't lift things and she said that was okay and that the shifts were only 3-5 hours long which is awesome.
She sent me to another table where they gave me a date and time for a second interview, which is probably a more formal one with multiple interviewers. That is in a couple of weeks.
I have mixed feelings about returning to work for a number of reasons. The constant pain in my back will be worsened and I will likely have to take more pills to combat it (although I'm going to look into getting a back brace,) my tendency to be overwhelmed by social and sensory input, it will necessitate more personal grooming (which I hate.) But I need money.

The job fair was not as bizarre as I had thought it would be. The organizers didn't seem a bit stressed out though.
