I came across a bird job local to my area, tough it is temporary. They have "required qualifications" which I meet, but they have a "strong canidates will have" section and I fall short... do I even bother?

Yeah, a "perfect candidate" that apply for the same job could take another job, or decide to stay at their current job.

Always apply, it generally doesn't cost anything, but do not expect to get every job you apply for, thinking like that only leads to disappointment.

It can be a good idea to call or email the employer before you write a job application. Ask them some questions about the job and use their reply to decide you should apply or not. It's never a bad idea to apply for a job you might like, but then again, you may waste a lot of time applying for something that you're not qualified for in the first place... So, contact the employer and ask them some questions about the job.

Strong candidates aren't likely to leave a good job for a temporary one.
