I'm potentially going for an interview for a casual job in the near future. I have never had a job before, nor have I done an interview. The position is a Christmas casual in a large department store (which is maybe not the most Aspie-friendly job, but short-term employment opportunities are limited. I am naturally quite a shy and introverted person. Do you have any general or Aspie-specific tips?

Try thinking out details beforehand for making your case. Think of a couple points which would point out your strengths, along with examples of things from your past which would demonstrate those strengths, which you can quickly mention. When mentioning any sort of needs or difficulties, you may have with certain things, its good to quickly follow that with mentions on strategies you can employ to cope with those things. You don't need to constantly look into the interviewers eyes, looking in the interviewers general direction tends to work. Hand gestures which flow with the lines of your speaking can help reinforce things being said, and can be used to cover self-soothing actions.

Don't tell them you are shy and introverted.

You may wish to say stuff like you pay attention to detail and you are loyal, don't engage in gossip, and have a serious attitude for working and getting things done, you plan to leave your cellphone home or in the car, and zero friends will be stopping by at work.

We aren't shy. We are observant.
We aren't introverted. We choose our friends carefully.

It's like we have to pick other words to describe ourselves or we won't get hired?
