Gig jobs?

Does anyone have experience with working in the gig economy? I'm looking at online transcription jobs at the moment. Some days I'm too stressed and anxious to do anything, which obviously doesn't work well with conventional employment, but I figure getting a gig job where I can choose when I work would be fine. I really want to earn enough that I'm getting more money from my job than from the government. I live in the UK, so any jobs that require US residency aren't an option.
