I was offered a job 2 weeks ago but turned it down due to some reservations at that time (late night shifts, etc).

After turning it down, I regretted it 'cos apart from the shifts, the job was quite interesting and I need a job right now. I thought of calling back the HR person but I could not bring myself to it. Today I saw the same job ad again - apparently the position is still open.

Do you think it is a good idea to call the HR and tell her to give me the opportunity again? It would take a lot of thick skin and no guarantee that she would re-offer the job, but I keep thinking if I had passed on an opportunity I would regret.

I’d try again.....what can you lose?

I’d wonder, though, why the job wasn’t filled yet.

Are the late shifts a safety concern? About being out late at night & getting home safely? I'd be nervous about that.

Perhaps if you get in touch with HR you can talk it through - their might be other openings which don't have the late shifts. It's a good confidence-building experience to try, so nothing to lose.

Yes the late night shifts are a concern. The job requires working till midnight 50% of the time, and till 3am twice monthly. It also requires standing for long hours. I used to work at desk-bound jobs so I have some reservations there too.

I guess the salary is not fantastic. The company hires mostly foreign workers who accept lower market rate pay. Now that the country is stricter on immigration control, they have a hard time offering the same terms to locals.
