Beginning Designer on DeviantArt

Hi, I am need of some practical advice.
I'm a beginning graphical designer/autonomous artist and have been thinking about starting a DeviantArt account to earn a little extra money on the side.

I have used DA very lightly in the past, but never with the intend to make money and I was thinking that somebody here who is already selling prints on the site could give me some beginner advice to get me started - especially in regards of scam-prevention.
All feeback and advice is welcome.
