So I'm sitting here bored and see a job advertised for a point-count tech and eagle nest monitor in Indiana. A point-count tech is someone that walks along a predetermined path and records birds seen and heard along the path. When I did that before in Ohio for part of two summers I was told I was so good at it I could make a living off it.

Anyway so I apply and get an email back saying "take this bird quiz, should take about 30 min". Well I do it in 6min. And only get one bird ID wrong

Anyway now I have a phone interview tomorrow... Job lasts 11 months, pays 17 dollars full time with benefits...

I'm concerned it might end up being to physical though... Not sure how to bring that up...

Congratulations! :D Don't worry about the physical issues yet (unless you know you're not up to it already). Go to the interview, present your best self (you've made a fantastic start already) and let them describe what the job involves. Most employers will describe any physically rigorous situations on their own. Ask intelligent interested questions of course, but let them bring up the obstacles if they exist.

Umm... Looking at where this job is located if I get it I'd be touring the Big Ten again... (I went to MSU, I had an internship at Penn State, I worked two summers for Ohio State, the job I had briefly last spring was a couple blocks from UofM... This job I'm interviewing for is in Perdue land) O_O;

Spartan, Nittany Lion, Buckeye, Wolverine and Boilermaker???

Aww, ty! My husband is willing to stay behind here if I go. Like I did in Ohio I might find a cheap room with some University students...

Don't know if it would mess up his medical though...

That was a great interview! I asked if there was excessive walking, the said "no, you drive around on country roads and get out of your car and record birds". Then I had a great chat and then asked about personal vehicle, she said "We'll rent you one until you get another". Then I asked about housing "we provide a housing stipend on top of your paycheck"

But they want someone to start within next couple weeks... And a full time job with benefits would affect the benefits we already have.

Anyway didn't get an immediate offer but I could tell the lady was interested!

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! This just sounds sooooo good - I hope you get it.

I'm going to suggest you call the social service team for your husband right away and let them know you are being considered for an out-of-state job and would have to start in 2 weeks. That might help them get busy setting up home services for him. Nothing happens overnight, which is why I suggest you call even before you get an offer.

I'm just so excited for you!

Lady says she's going to try to contact my references and I think one of them might be on vacation now but the other two usually respond pretty quickly (a former supervisor who is now a professor and a coworker I worked extensively with during another bird job). I did remember to send out a thank you letter via email. But now the YMCA wants to interview me for a part time summer job (YMCA is like one block from where I live) but I'm not good at supervising kids...

If you're not good at supervising kids, I wouldn't take the YMCA job.

I'm not good at supervising kids. I would only take such a job if I was really desperate.

Anyway doing research, if I am not living with my husband, SSA might separate our benefits, preserving my husband's SSI and medical... Hmm...

That might mean more money for the both of you.

I wish your husband could enjoy life more, and get better.

But I feel like the present job (it's in Purdue, right?) would be good for you.

Not a Purdue job, but based out of the same city.

No offer yet, but one of my references contacted me saying that she had been contacted, so indeed she is trying to reach my references. We'll see.

Going to DHS and SSA tomorrow because we had to go there anyway, to see also how a possible job would affect everything.

Let us know when you hear back from the Indiana job. I sure hope you don't decide you can't take it because of husband's medical benefits. If you are even tempted to decide that - think twice.

SSA and DHS said they really can't tell me anything right now...

I found out our food stamps are so low because there is a new rule where food stamps are greatly affected by your electric and heating bill... If your heat and electric are part of your rent they kinda assume you have more cash money so they cut food stamps drastically, in our apartment all utilities are included so we are out of luck...
