About 18 years ago, I worked for a food court at an airport, doing mostly food prep and some cashier work, next to a lot of cleaning. During that time, there were lots of employees that came and went. Of them was this young woman who had just been hired on not too long after I was. She was not on the spectrum but she did have an attitude but I did not see her talking to anyone and appeared to be very concentrated on her work.

Still, the manager decided right out of the blue, "I'm sorry, I can't work with you. Clock out." So the girl ended up in tears and I saw her speaking with the HR manager at the food court. I just wonder why this manger decided to throw her out.

Did you ever ask the manager?

No, I never did ask why but I did think about it. All I know is that this girl was seemed to keep to herself while working. Not once did I never see her fight with the manager or anything. The only thing I remember is seeing the manager causing this great big scene by suddenly telling her out of the blue, "I'm sorry I can't work with you. Clock out."

Could be any number of things, then. Speculations could range from him simply having a bad day to her making unreasonable demands. Only the two of them would know for sure, and their stories may not agree. Besides, it's been 18 years ... would they even remember?

It has been a long time for them, but I thought I would bring it up due to some of the laws that certain states have where a person can fire you without any good reason and mainly because "They don't like you." Besides, my manager seemed to do other weird things along with seeming to have a short fuse.

You refer to the "At Will" hiring laws in most states, by which an employer does not have to give an official reason for dismissal, but only dismiss employees "at will", which is sometimes followed by the "Walk of Shame" as the ex-employees carries their personal effects under escort past all of their ex-coworkers and on out the door.

That happened to me once. I had written a report that unfavorably reflected upon a new plan by the owner's son to improve sales. The owner's son took exception and had the owner get rid of me. The following three business quarters were disastrous for the company, and they filed for bankruptcy by the end of the year.

It turn out that someone had reported the company to the District Attorney for shady business practices...

:chin: Anonymously, of course...

That sounds like it was a complete blessing in disguise in your case as the company that you worked for was not a good place to be.

The company that I worked for also had management did extremely shady things to people as well. For instance, they gave false promises to all their workers with some sort of disability. For instance, they kept telling me they were going to promote me to a managerial position when I was nowhere near ready for something like that.

They also set me up for failure as a cashier where they had the drawer be a right amount of bills one day and then short the next, from the start to finish. So they took that away from me and put me on the cleaning crew with the other two employees with disabilities. All the while, jerking me around about my promotion and going, "But I want you to prove to me that you can count case drawers properly," and "I am sorry, there are no openings right now."

I eventually got fired too because I elected to take a stand against the false promises that had been made to me in addition to seeing lots of abuse there. They retaliated against me for a few weeks but making me do lots of cleaning before deciding to get rid of me.

I kinda went through some stuff as well. It's not even worth talking about anymore. I walk my dog and have strange things like retaliating granite trucks to look forward to and more. Ultimately seems like my dog is better in the kennel that would try to take her away for not complying to rules for now for her safety. Taking things to the corporate office of a job and it's outcome makes sex abusers more safe a people vs. the towns qualms. I don't even like going to places I have worked and was made to be even less desire-able. I cannot believe there are people who would agree with the practices of the places I have worked at but it seems the majority and no one cared. I have no idea who I live next to but they also do not care. All of the stuff that I did, meaning to be for people, and like all my prior jobs show their bad colors.. we are on equal ground and equally a**holes of various degrees. It's somewhat uplifting to know that everything as an end result is or has been pointless for everyone and am receiving the short end of the stick as I watch my coworkers be the same way but with less punishment and yet continuing to be able to work and have their places in the world with their given functions of necessity. I shall be Jesus by the time this is over. I don't even like the idea of being an icon but whatever.

I suspect they did it because they could. If you live the USA and in a state with "at-will employment" and/or "right-to-work" laws on the books, you can be fired for just about any reason at all (or no reason) unless you're bound by contract. The only upside is that "at-will" cuts both ways; you can just ghost a bad job or walk out mid-shift with no obligation to give notice or explain why.
