We're all individuals, so I've learned over time that while there are definite aptitude trends for successful ASD folk, there are also surprisingly successful exceptions. For example, I am often surprised to see that there are ASD teachers and marines.

One career I've been curious about recently is counselling. We've often been on the disabled side of this equation and used their services, but has anyone here, in the past or in the present, worked as a counsellor?

Did/do you enjoy it?

ASD teachers, marines I can see, although marine might just be a better choice than teacher. Counsellors, no, reason being, empathy and social skills are the most important skills for a counsellor. I never even considered that role, I think the patients would walk all over me and otherwise wear me out with their drama. Even thinking about being a counsellor, my reaction is Please God No.

I would suck as a Marine.

I’d do better as a counselor.

Marining is not for me either.
I'd do better as a counselor, but that is not saying much.
I found the right role, technical, and enjoy it and enjoy the people I work with. I tend to get along with others, but don't get close to anyone.
