Getting a break for once

After years of hopping from consulting gig to consulting gig before what I call "Aspie-itis" had a chance to set in, I'm actually doing well in a full time job that pays as much as consulting. While everyone else gets messed with, yelled at, leaned on for overtime, the worst that happens to me is a little bit of patronizing and being talked down to. I complete my deliverables (often much more challenging and interesting than the rest of the team) on time and accurately and no one messes with me. S-o-m-e p-e-o-p-l-e t-a-l-k t-o m-e r-e-a-l s-l-o-w when they come to my cube, but that's a hundred times better than getting belittled, yelled at and constantly being leaned on for overtime without pay like the NTs have to deal with. If an occasional dumb smile is sufficient to keep this up, as not to disappoint them, why not? The beauty of dumb smiles is that they require zero attention to timing or keeping track of the contents of a conversation.

In the nutty corporate environment, Aspies can beat out an NT for an opening if the supervisor is insecure, looking for someone who can do the work but is zero threat to take his job.
