Is anyone an Accountant or an Account Clerk? Anyone working in an accounting department, do you like your job? Is it difficult? Any advice for working in an accounting office/department?

I work in accounts payable and payroll. The work is easy, it's coping with people that's the problem for me. I like being in my own little cubicle where I can tune the rest of the staff and public out. I am really fortunate that my supervisor is a very understanding person.

You are very lucky! I worked in a similar area for awhile, and it was very hard because there were always things people wanted me to do that took away from what I was actually trying to get done. I had a hard time with the problem solving aspect of it. I had a really hard time with that, actually. I'm so glad things are going well for you in your job.

I'm an accountant. I excel at problem solving. I love it when I can straighten out a messed up set of books. I don't like the day to day routine of A/P and A/R as much. I also don't like it when expectations are mixed, or when the bosses expect a report in the next hour that will take hours or days to get together. I also don't like it when the bosses require changes without any clue what they're going to mess up in the process.

I generally like the work, but not if it's high volume data entry. The social aspects aren't too bad, but I had one VIP who kept wanting to pick pick pick at small details without any idea how hard it really was. He also kept wanting to subvert QuickBooks to his own ends without any clue how this relational database actually works. Apparently I had difficulties communicating that properly. What? I can't say "D, no you can't do that!"?
