Bailey's Bakehouse
Here is my comprehensive job history. I have to pick and choose from this list when I am out applying for jobs. It appeared in the comments of a previous note, but I wanted to spotlight it. What it says about me is unclear, but I do think it means I have a better chance of making it as a business owner than as an employee.
I've had many jobs, and they've lasted as long as a year in some cases, but you can see why they don't really add up to much.
Drury Newspaper: One Year. Was not asked to return after a floppy disc failure on the last issue cost me everything.
Campus Exchange: One Year. Closing shift. Cleaned up. Restocked. Did the dishes. Left once college ended.
First Federal: Summer 2003 and 2004. Did some office stuff. Working for family. Meaningless.
Strategic Telecommunications: Two weeks in August 2004. Couldn't stick to a phone script and had to part ways.
IHOP: Summer 2004. Dishwasher. Lasted a month before leaving due to being forced to work several hours more on several shifts than I'd agreed to.
Campbell 16 Cine. Winter 2005. Lasted two months as seasonal help, but quit when hours got low in February. Good job, actually. Wish I'd stayed.
Springfield School District: 2006-2007 school year. Substitute taught while trying to find direction post-Marie. Finally moved to Arkansas.
Wal-Mart: Phone support. Had to leave a month into training after failing to learn the complex system used to track merchandise. Listed as rehirable though, so that's a plus.
Northwest Arkansas' School Districts. Substitute for two of them while trying to become a teacher, ultimately stopping because the profession is too collectivist.
That brings us to today, where I realize I need to own my own business because clearly holding down a job as an employee is not my bag. Can you really disagree? Having discovered over the past year, and especially in my contributions to Thanksgiving, a talent for cooking, especially baking, I'm going to culinary school and learning to be a baker. Once my training ends, I will start up my own bakery and called it Bailey's Bakehouse. As owner and boss, my aspie behavior will not get me fired and if the product is tasty neither will it cost me business.
