anyone happy in their job?

I'm very happy at my job. I'm out in the fresh air, early in the morning. I get my exercise in, before 8:30. I'm not in a crowded office, surrounded by yuppies. I can go into work wearing any colour of hair product that I want. I also get to have a glimpse of all my rat friends, who live in the bushes. :O)

I love my job. I do production of generic drugs and its somewhat laid back with only 3 other co-workers.

I am semi-self employed and keep very relaxed hours and have no real supervisor.

frankly, I am spoiled.

I think that overall I am happy in my work.

I would not say that work is just one long jolly at a holiday camp, but I have more good days than bad days there.

Years ago one of my teachers did say that some very lucky people are able to combined their hobby with their work, I think that he was right. I like to think that in some parts of my time on earth that I have been able to combine the two.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

I have had jobs I've loved and jobs I've hated. Things that make it or break it for me:

1. My coworkers have to be competent. I had one job working in a shop in an ice rink where some of my coworkers were just plain stupid. It drove me crazy.

2. My boss has to be competent. If my boss doesn't have time to interact with me, ask questions, etc. then I'm not going to enjoy my work. I need clear guidelines. Same thing applies for competent bosses that are simply overworked.

3. My coworkers have to be friendly. I'm not that outgoing, as you can imagine, but I enjoy feeling like the people around me are at least somewhat my friends. No, they don't have to invite me to a party on the weekend, but I really appreciate it when a coworker offers to eat lunch with me or go someplace for lunch on a Friday.

4. I have to be able to take breaks. I like to be able to work hard for an hour or two and then wander around for 15 minutes or so. It hasn't been a problem in any of my previous jobs so far *knock on wood*

5. No long hours. I arrive on time. I leave on time. Period.

I think that's about it really...

I love recording sound, and I love films, and I record audio for films. It's nearly perfect for me. I do have to interact with more people than I would like to, but it's not too bad because most of the talk on set is shop talk, and quirks are far more accepted on set than in other areas of employment. Actually, the fact that I'm obsessive about sound is a huge plus on set. They know that I give a s**t unlike many other people who are just there to do the job well enough to get a paycheck. Also, as sound, I don't really need to interact with other departments much. I just set up out of the way, and stay out of the way until we're ready to shoot a scene, which gives me plenty of time to read and listen to music.

I am happy with my job. I teach in a public high school. I am in charge of the gifted program. My official job title is Gifted Intervention Specialist. I have few students---and the ones I have are the high achieving students with high IQs. They work on independent projects. I usually have from one to three students at a time.

Before this, I taught high school English for 19 years---not so happy. But the last 2 years with the gifted have been a blessing.
