Well, I finally did it. I have found a position in my field. This helps by finding a company that was actually serious about hiring. I applied to a job on January 12th. On February 12th, I was offered a position as an Embedded Systems Developer for telecommunications equipment.

I was contacted via email on the 4th for a phone interview on 5th. Then, a second phone interview was scheduled on the 6th. Immediately, after that, they asked for references. The first reference I listed was my friend (who was my previous employer. I am fairly certain that he is an aspie as well. However, he refuses labels.)

My friend was called, and he gave a good reference in just about every respect. His thought is that you must state one negative to make the positives stated more believable. This is most likely the case. However, he decided to infer that I had no leadership skills. His thought is that I was not being hired for a leadership position, so it would be fine. I guess he doesn't realize that engineers are now expected to have leadership skills to mentor more junior engineers, and to be tapped for management.

After calling him, my other references were not contacted. I waited an agonizing three days thinking that my friend's comment had sunk my career ship, only to receive a phone call on the 12th that I have the position. I was dumbfounded. I had not figured that the interview process had progressed to that stage. In fact, with every other company that I had interviewed with, it was a matter of me trying to keep the interview process alive, with them not meeting deadline after deadline that they had stated. Go figure on receiving the position! I have not even met with these people.

The position is in Saskatoon, SK, and I am in Calgary, AB. I start on the 27th, and will have to relocate to Saskatoon. This does not leave much time for me to locate suitable housing in Saskatoon. Thus, to make a long story short, I am curious if there are any WP'ers in Saskatoon who would be willing to give me advice &c on the relocating, and finding suitable accommodations.

Congrats!

Can't help you with Saskatoon. Been there, but don't live there.

In a way it doesn't matter where you stay, because pretty soon you'll be able to buy a home there.
