Hi

I want to ask any mums on here if they had food cravings during pregnancy. It's because I am writing a novel and pregnancy cravings are a key part of the story. If you don't mind sharing the information I would appreciate your answers.

Do the cravings start early in the pregnancy and last throughout?
Can you ignore the cravings easily?
If you give in to them can you stop eating the thing you crave easily?
Would you go out of your way to satisfy the craving?
What is the strangest thing you craved?
Did you crave a lot for meat (cooked or uncooked)?

Thanks in advance.

Do the cravings start early in the pregnancy and last throughout? No idea, this is my third pregnancy and I didn't have any in my first and second. In my first trimester and now, I have been wanting mac and cheese and there is never any in my house that is made and I don't feel like cooking it.
Can you ignore the cravings easily? Yes because I have to cook for it and I don't want to cook.
If you give in to them can you stop eating the thing you crave easily? When I get full or when I eat it all up my husband left in a bowl for me.
Would you go out of your way to satisfy the craving? No.
What is the strangest thing you craved? Nothing.
Did you crave a lot for meat (cooked or uncooked)? No.

My son is 13 now so it's been a while since I was pregnant. I'll do my best:

Do the cravings start early in the pregnancy and last throughout? Yes
Can you ignore the cravings easily? Not always
If you give in to them can you stop eating the thing you crave easily? No
Would you go out of your way to satisfy the craving? Yes
What is the strangest thing you craved? Nothing strange. I craved a lot of salads.
Did you crave a lot for meat (cooked or uncooked)? I could not stand the smell of chicken.. let alone, eat it.

When pregnant, your body tends to crave the nutrients it's lacking and repel the nutrients your body has excess of. I ate a lot of chicken at that time so when I became pregnant, I could not stand the smell of it! I also didn't eat enough vegetables which explains why I often had major cravings for salads. I craved chocolate as well and was probably low in magnesium.

I think my craving is liquids now. Two days in a row now I have been wanting something to drink and i always want something like pop or some drink. I think today mostly what I had was liquids more than food.

Thanks for your replies. That is helpful.

So it seems it depends on the pregnancy. Cravings are related to bodily needs. Some women can ignore the craving but others cannot. I just wanted your input and you've given me some good info.

Do the cravings start early in the pregnancy and last throughout? None early on, but by 2nd trimester
Can you ignore the cravings easily? Yes, but you don't want to.
If you give in to them can you stop eating the thing you crave easily? Yes
Would you go out of your way to satisfy the craving? Occasionally, but often others would for you. People are kind to pregnant ladies.
What is the strangest thing you craved? Nothing really weird, just spicy food.
Did you crave a lot for meat (cooked or uncooked)? Not more than normal, but a really, really missed sushi.
