I watched fireworks the 5th of July. Despite using bug spray and wearing pants, I got several mosquito bites on both arms, my ankle, and one on each leg. The past 2 days they have been so itchy and I just couldn't stop myself from scratching no matter what I was doing. The itching was so bad that it woke me up last night at around 3am. I sat up on my bed and put on cvs brand 1% extra strength cortisone cream. I was able to fall asleep, but the itch came back first thing when I woke up at around 6am. Just a little while ago, I rubbed more cream up and down my arms and on my legs, but I already itch again, just not unbearably. As long as I only itch this much, I don't have to scratch it. Any idea why the cortisone cream isn't completely soothing my itch for several hours? I'm putting it on generously and rubbing it in.

Very Sorry your Holiday went that way for you. Hope you feel better soon ,Ice helps? vibrating pillow, changes sensation
Am not a Doctor , but is sounds as if your bodys inflammitory response, might be alittle high..? When I was confronted with a similiar situation. I bought some strong over the counter allergy tablets . Seemed to actually "help me." Kinda big Orange and White bi- layered tablet. Suppose to work for 12 hours. Not found of using it. But I hate doctors.
Its like 600 mg of Guafenesin and 600 mg of something else. Been my go to for a long time . Doing yardwork just kills my inflammitory response. For years.. Just thought to share. Might check with a nurseline or ?

I use DEET as an effective bug spray. I've swatted a few mosquitoes recently when I haven't used DEET.
I've now been applying DEET to my socks to ward off ticks.
We now have lone star ticks. Being bitten by them can make you allergic to red meat.

I used some of that cortisone cream for a very mild sunburn. It made my skin red for few days before turning dark brown.

The only thing that works for me is to put a little spot/dot band-aid on them. My hand feels the change in texture & stops.

Upon googling, it appears that the newer picaridin used in mosquito+ sprays might be more effective prevention than even DEET.
