Just wanted to let everyone know that Im no longer supporting Derek Hoare web site on Face book. This is the man whos Autistic daughter was taken from him. I was on his Facebook site and suddenly all these posts about chelation therapy and Anti vaccine type articles started popping up and now someone is saying he is going to court to say that his daughter was poisoned by vaccines. There are a lot of Anti vaccine, DAN people feeding him crap and I guess that is the road he wants to travel. I am Pro vaccine so I can not and will not support him. I feel badly for his daughter but I doubt going down this road is going to get him his daughter back.

As you can see this post has been edited. I was very upset as I had been personally attacked on the site so I had a meltdown of sorts. I still am not on the site but I have been contacted by Derek, Ayn's Dad and I have explained my reason for not wanted to be a part of the forum but that I still do support him getting back his daughter. I do not however support DAN doctors, not vaccinating your children and chelation therapy.

Funny, while I am TOTALLY with you and pro-vaccine, I don't like to think that someone could take my child if I decided to exercize my right to not have him vaccinated.

All of that said, there could be more to the story that isn't public, there usually is.

I signed the petition to say that taking an autistic child from her home is probably the most traumatic, damaging thing one could do to an AS child, nearly guaranteeing regression, and that it would take something extreme, more than has been publicized, to justify it, and that what disturbed me was the lack of understanding of ASD's the case seemed to show. I think that is true no matter who gets to the Dad, or even if he's always been slightly nuts.

so someone doesn't deserve your support because of their differing views?

You wouldn't happen to be a christian, would you?

I live in the area as Derek. And trust me, what has been published is NOT all there is to the story. Some things can not be published.

Seriously though, a government could not take a child away for just the reason of wandering. It would not happen. I am not necessarily in agreement with the decision. However, after several attempts at giving that family the help, and refusal of the help, well, then perhaps it was not such a horrible decision.

My only problem is that I do not believe there was legal warning of this happening. I am not sure how that part all went down. But before making rash judgements, think about if it really makes sense. Think about if there could be info that we do not know. What was published in the news is not very complete. Leaves lots of holes.

Edited to Add: My source is the rumour mill. Nothing with hard evidence.

He refused help offered however. Wish they could have court-ordered help in order to keep the child at home. Not clear on those details. They are not public.

Edited to Add: It's the word about town anyways. I dont have any concrete evidence, just the rumour mill around here.

Actually all of that said, I would be happier if the child was not placed in a hospital. I think that is damaging even if taking her from the home is warranted.

You do kind of have to figure something was going on that everyone isn't tuned into. But when I considered if I would sign that petition, and factored in what has been heard of how the girl responded to the removal, even realizing there has to be something there we don't know, I just couldn't get to removal being the right action. It seems like such an extreme last resort to me, because odds are good this will spiral the child into complete withdrawal.

Well, while I am unabashedly anti-DAN, I still can't condone the gov't taking his kid.

Looks like the cranks are getting to him, though, which is sad. So many people lack a basic understanding of ASD's. :(

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of children with AS who are taken by the state do end up institutionalized because they do not respond to the normal tactics people use to deal with children who are being difficult and in state care and just shut down and fall to piece. The state's sometimes first and always last tactic for difficult children is to drug them up and restrain them. They even do this to NT children who are just having a rough time in life who do not cooperate and submit to even the smallest orders.

I've seen a boy put in restraints because he was upset and hitting a wall with a towel. He wasn't involving anyone else and was actually in a room by himself doing it, yet it was decided he didn't have a right to express his emotions that way and when he didn't stop when they asked he was wrestled into leather restraints.

An investigation also found that at one point, the local youth authority had a large portion of their inmates drugged up on thorazine. A lot of these kids are also sexually abused when in state care.

The state is an absolutely horrible parent. Children should only be removed when there is an extreme threat to their well being.

I grew up in care with my siblings, hell on earth, I don't think any children should be removed (of course there is exceptions) without every support made to parents and extended family. It has to be the last resort not the first.

Decent or even extremely good foster parents do exist. We can only pray or wish she reaches one of these families.

It does not matter how good a foster parent is. When you remove a kid with AS or autism from a home that is familiar to them and they are content being in, it is extremely traumatic to the child and subjects the child to prolonged stress which can result in the formation of severe psychiatric disorders.

I will change the title to this post to read that I am no longer on the site for Ayn. NO I am not a Christian but I do not support killing children because they MAY get autism and I do not want to be "related" to that in any way. I am pro vaccine and I believe that people who chose not to vaccinate their children are not only harming their own children but children around them. There are now diseases back, like measles and whooping cough back in places like the US, UK and Australia. Its not a "personal" choice it is a choice that affects your neighbors children or newborns that are not protected.

I do not pull my support for getting Ayn back but I do not want to be a part of a web site that is now teeming with Anti Vaccine people and people who believe that autism is acquired. Dont these people know that there are many metabolic syndromes that the child progresses normally and then starts to loose skills.....regressive autism and Retts being only two of them.
Anyway, I sent a message to Derek and the information I got was that he is not backing the anti vac people and he just wants his daughter back.....the message I got was from a good source but sometimes Derek does not sleep and says things he doesnt mean. So he is not going to sue for damage due to vaccines.....anyway, I would have posted this earlier but I have been away with no internet access.
Please do sign the petition to bring Ayn home, she needs to be with her family and away from these people who are trying to drug her into silence and medically restrain her.

Like I said, Im not leaving the group because I think Derek does not deserve to have his child back. I just will not back a site that is propagating things that I am so against. I was very upset the day I put the post up so, again, sorry to seem so cruel, its not why I left.

THat is not why she was taken and I also disagree with you. I think it should be a law to vaccinate your child with the serious deadly diseases. As I said in my post its not ONLY your children you put at risk its everyones.

I agree completely....I also agree that these weirdos who are now surrounding him are the ones that make Autism look like some sort of psychiatric disease in the first place. They go on and on about how terrible their children suffer, ect. If they would take one second to stop thinking about their children being poisoned by the government or the BIG PHARM than maybe they could understand them and help them. Instead they run them around to these DAN doctors who are constantly taking blood, using chelation and other frightening methods to "cure" these poor ILL (and yes these parents do call their children sick and ill) children. They need understanding not needles and crazy diets. If you kid has a food allergy yeah put him on a diet....remove the offending food. Not all kids have food allergies. Also they spread this idea that a child with autism is suffering and withering in pain 24/7 and this is what the public is buying. So yeah, grab up these kids, lock em up and drug them so they cant move.....that'll keep them from running. These people are all nutso in my opinion.

As far as Derek not accepting help he did listen to me and I feel like I did my part and he doesnt need me any more. I told him that this was an Autistic human rights case that this was discrimination. He was not aware of that believe it or not. So he went after the autistic rights people and they are now helping him.....however he now has all these nutty chelation-vaccines cause autism-autism is an acquired "disease" type people and they make A LOT of noise and seem to take pleasure in attacking people who dont agree with them. Speaking of radical religious folks.....these people are in the same boat and its just as fruitless to try to talk to them as it is the other. Still....I cant help myself and I ended up so upset that I had a major meltdown....hence this post. I still am not on Dereks site and we did talk and I explained to him why.

I went to check the site just now and I can still read it, just cant post....which is better. They actually (obviously) removed the posts where I was attacked personally and they removed the advertisement for the DAN "doctor" who did chelation therapy. However, Derek put up a post himself citing different theories like the anti vaccine theory just to get a discussion going. These people are seriously nuts....I was laughing at some of the things they post. One said they would rather have Polio than severe autism. Another said that Autistic people have big heads due to hydrocephalic damage to their (our) brains. Then there was clamping of the cord after birth, vitamin K shots, pain meds during birth like epidurals. It reminded me of that thread here on WP that we started as a joke about "Things that cause Autism".......Im sorry but these people are loopy!
