Writing a book on People with Dosabilities

I would like to introduce myself as Paul. I am 17 years old and in year 12 and at Mannum Community College, my local school. I live in Australia about an hour away from Adelaide in the state of South Australia

As a year 12 student students in this year level have the opportunity to complete a subject called Community Studies. Community Studies is a school-based subject where students have the opportunity to choose what they want to do as a task.

For Community Studies this year I am completing a book on People with Disabilities. This book is going to cover five main disability topics. The disabilities covered will be:

• Autism
• Cerebral Palsy
• Spina Bifida
• Muscular Dystrophy
• Acquired Brain Injury

This book on people living with disabilities will be a factual book and based on the lives of those people living with disabilities.

It will include general facts such as
• What the disability is?
• How the disability occurs?
• What the effects are of the disability?
• Treatment etc etc.

I am currently in the researching stage of writing the book, researching about each of the disabilities I have listed.

I would just like to know if any of the parents and or other people would have any interest into the publication of writing this book by supplying any stories and or other bits of information regarding Asperger's or Autism or any of the disabilities I have listed above.

If any of you would like to help me this would be good

don't mean to put a damper on your book, but you've chosen such an odd grouping of "disabilities".....why?
and next, most folks around here don't exactly like the word disability....sure, we're all effected in one way or another by autism and/or aspergers...but don't try to force the word disability on us. plenty of us are quite able!

Ster makes a good point. My son has Aspergers and i certainly quite able. his key problems are reading social cues NTs take for granted but his IQ is far above average and he is listed as "gifted" in all sreas of study. I suggest you read through thease forums and check out the chat to see if theser 'SUFFERERS' of Autism cinsider themselves disabled. Maybe consider a title change.

but i prefer to use windows

I see my AS as a gift. I see myself as being quite able. I'm fairly high functioning minus the disability that I have in the Trouser Department ( I don't need to go on any further about that). When I weigh my many abilities against that one tiny glitch, I see myself as a highly capable Individual.

Ster, Z's problem was shoes, thank heaven, but if he could get the other kids in his class to tie them... why bother? See why I'm thankful?

i can't do a tie or shoes

Ties are an atavism, Solid, I . can tie them but won't. Just one of my minor rebellions against being crammed into Society's mold.

Z finally learned to tie his shoes, when HE wanred to!

Here is one of my solutions for my shoes

The thin black wire stays tied forever just slip on or off twist at top to tighten

ahahaha good idea parts, alot of times a day i find myself tying mine and retying my shoes (well boots too) it gets soo annoying,

if i went to do the same thing, id probably need a cable like from usb computer componants or network/phone cord (just kidding i wouldnt acutally walk around with computer cables hanging from my shoes, dont wnt to appear to have kicked the living harddrives out of a cpu as a walk(kidding)

I like that solution! The computer cables would be fun too.

Yeh, plus you can get slip-on shoes.

Or failing that, velcro.

They don't make many slip on shoes I like so that is why I made my own. The wire is just out of an alarm cable used black to match shoes but there are many other colors too
