Son just diagnosed with Aspergers

My son does not require me to say things any particular number of times. He's simply fixated on making sure things are "clean" before he can proceed with his day. This really is a recent thing with him. Maybe within the last month to 6 weeks he's been like this. I've always tried to remind him to wash his hands after going to the bathroom, before eating etc... I almost blame myself for constantly reminding him to do this, but how can I really. I mean it's natural for a mother to remind their kid to wash their hands right? I also feel like blaming the school because now the kids have to have personal hand sanitizer with them and they use it throughout the day. Don't know what was being said at the school about washing hands either. Oh well, just another quirk for my quirky kid But I will be looking into OCD doctors too.

Theresa, my son also went thru the germaphobe thing recently. It lasted about 3 months. It may go away, may not. It is POSSIBLE it could be OCD, anxiety, or AS symptoms. I bet they taught a lot about germs and handwashing and stuff in school this year. Being AS he probably took hold of it and is concentrating on the information he received. It is hard to tell where this is coming from, especially because he is 6 yo. It does not sound sensory or OCD to me. I think it is anxiety and AS related.

Thank you bjtao. I am hoping this goes away too. But it is still something I will have to discuss with a therapist once we find a good one and one we like. I hate this waiting game to see Dr's. I'm the type of person that wants to get things started, and finish them. I'm not patient LOL
