Understanding Correlation In Sadness
Wow, my daughter does this to the extreme. Goodbyes are very difficult for her. When we leave someplace or someone leaves our house my daughter starts crying and saying she misses my mom or misses someone else. It's as though ANY goodbye makes her remember those who she misses. It is very strange. Also, she "misinterprets" emotions. When she's sad she'll say she's tired and when she's happy she'll say her stomach hurts, etc. When she's tired she cries and says she misses someone. It can be very confusing.

Dorian has really bad seperation anxiety and it is really bad when someone is leaving the house. he also seems to go through phases of intensity. we never thought anything of it with my husband going to work but as he got older his anxiety towards me leaving got really bad. I stay at home with him and hardly ever leave the house without him but when I do it is a huge production. No tears lately but his moods change daily and the tears can start flying again at any give time.

My daughter is the same way. She is really attached to me. For instance this Monday some friends of mine are going to a movie, I mentioned to my mom that I would like to go and would she watch my daughter? and my daughter has been crying on and off and begging "PLEASE don't go to the movie!". I can't figure out if she thinks something is going to happen to me when I am away, but even if I just have to run to the store for 5 minutes and she is playing happily she must stop everything to go with me because she cannot bear to be away from me. When she was younger I thought perhaps she thought I ceased to exist when she couldn't see me, but she is almost eight (in one month) and I know that can't be it-it's like I am her security blanket. I think this also has a lot to do with why she hates school and separating every single morning in class is a huge ordeal. Her teacher doesn't get it-she just says to me she'll grow out of it or "I've never seen a 16 year old do that". It doesn't get better, and in fact it's getting worse as she gets older.
