We're OK, Irene was worse for my area (the sewers weren't working right then, apparently it's fixed now). Part of the roof leaked but that's been an ongoing problem we were aware of that our landlord has tried to fix several times. I went on the roof and secured some trash bags to the worst spot when the leaking started to get real bad, that helped a lot.

However, I have friends and family on the shore who have lost their homes. My partner just left in search of his Dad and his Dad's gf who we suspect are still at the Red Cross shelter. We can't call because most of the area's cell towers are down. We're fairly certain they lost their home to flood water.

Glad you're okay InThisTogether! And glad you have your power restored!
I'm sorry about your family, Washi.
All in all the derecho of June 29-30th caused much more damage locally than Sandy.

Washi, I hope your partner's dad and girlfriend are found safe. I am limiting watching tv coverage because it is upsetting to the kids, but the devastation is really very sad :(

Thank you, they were at the shelter. Their house was flooded with about 4 ft. of water. This is a weird Halloween. Christie ordered everywhere in the state to postpone Trick-orTreat and my town was apparently hoping to ignore that order because they waited till about 1:30 this afternoon to update their their site with the new date and time. When I got up it was still scheduled for today, I panicked and started putting together my treat bags only to have it canceled.

Our Halloween was moved to Saturday. Many kids missed out last year because of the freak snow storm, so this is 2 years in a row. Not a biggie for grown-ups, but very disappointing for kids.

If you're in NJ keep an eye on that scheduled time, the order was that it had to be Monday or later so that day may change. Saturday would have been ideal for us, oh well. :/

Nope. Not NJ, but thanks! That would have been embarrassing to be taking kids around on the wrong day! :)
