I got a call from my son's vice principal about a discussion another parent had with her about my son. The parent voiced concern about a picture my son posted on Facebook. The parent said her kids showed her the picture and told her that if something like the Sandy Hook incident in Connecticut happened at their school that my son would be the first person they would suspect. The picture is of my son holding a toy, somewhat realistic, looking gun. My son is very non-violent. He has never hurt another living thing. He gets upset when another family member kills an insect or mouse. I have seen plenty of pictures online of other local guys in his age group (17) holding guns posing with the game that they have killed while hunting, but nothing is ever said about that. It's not fair that my son poses with a toy gun and gets profiled as something he is not simply because he has Asperger's.

Does anyone have any similar experiences and/or suggestions that might help me.

So many young people pose with guns nowadays..
I would get a lawyer and threaten to sue for slander or defamation of character if they dare speak another word of it. They have no reason at all to profile your son.
Ignorant people just sicken me..
Just because some parent (likely whose own child pointed out the picture on FB of your son) got her panties in an uproar over supposed rumors that aren't even a proven fact... aiii!

I really feel for you, they have no right to assume about people, especially innocent people.
That whole CT case with Lanza had more to do with the Lanzas' denial of the situation than anything else.

It is a sad situation. One bad decision changes the lives for so many.

How she could have been so irresponsible to not lock up her guns.

As someone who does own a gun, I face a stigma at times as well.

I respond by living as an example of law abiding gun ownership.

Thanks for all replies. This situation has gone from bad to unbelievable. I'm considering taking my son out of this school. I can't believe one parent has caused so much turmoil for my family.

I'm not really sure what is safe to share here. I haven't hired an attorney yet.

I am so sorry. I hope things go well for you; this is exactly what so many of us feared when the news broke and so many reporters made so many assumptions. Please keep all of us posted, we are worried for you and we want to help if we can.
