My oldest has had tics before, so I have read up a bit about tourette's and it is my understanding that it is exceptionally rare for a person with tourette's to have whole word tics in the absence of noise tics like throat clearing or physical tics like eye blinking. If I am not wrong, those two are the two most common, also.

Another thing is with the throat clearing tic, he wasn't even aware he was doing it most of the time. The same for the eye blinking. I think even when they are aware of it that it is at least partially involuntary. My four year old on the other gets obsessed with a word or phrase and repeats it until it feels like my ears are going to bleed if he says it again. He is most definitely doing it voluntarily.

I think its a bit of both voluntary and involuntary. She does a growling noise which goes with a bit of a jump or whole body twitch, and theres also a noise thats like when people are hacking up phlegme (nice!) and then she holds the spit in her mouth and makes noises through it. The growl seems to be the involuntary noise, she does it all the time even though I am sick of hearing it and it upsets her little sister. Its more often than not very loud and in her sisters face, its aggressive and quite scary as shes only 1 :/ I tell her not to do it but she cant help herself and often says "ooh sorry" after and covers er mouth, as if she didnt mean to do it but cant help it. She says things like it hurts if she doesnt do the noises and makes her feel better/calm when she does.

She does do the echolalia things a lot and always has, repeating words and phrases over and over. I really hope its not tourettes, an AS dx is enough to deal with!

Thanks for your replies, its really helpful :)
