"Menial" jobs in many ways can be more stressful then other jobs. For one thing, poop flows downhill and so you end up being treated very shabbily, not just by entitled customers who think they are better you, but by your immediate "managers" as well. The things that are important tend to be things like speed and efficiency which are not necessarily an Aspie's best skill set.

Building and repairing computers would be great if he didn't get attached to what he made, and not want to part with it. I can understand not wanting to keep giving him money for parts and part upgrades. I also wonder as other posters if he was doing the work on order if he would be able to be able to immediately look at it as not his machine and not get attached to it. If not for a build, he may be able to do it on a repair b/c the machine was a full-fledged computer before he got to working on it, and so he was never its proverbial daddy.

How are his software/network skills. Can he work with networking settings and do OS/software upgrades/installs. He might be able to get work as some kind of freelance consultant helping small companies (without IT departments) upgrade their licensing and fix settings and such. He probably would not get emotionally attached to the machines in that context. I don't know how easy it would be to get work like that, there are probably mom pop businesses not too far away that could use a service like that even if you live out in no where's land.

Just a thought....
