Thank you for posting about that other forum. I have signed up for that.

I have to admit, your first post kind of put me off, like I wasn't welcome here being NT even though I have an ASD son. I'm glad you clarified that you were just trying to be helpful.

I do learn a lot here, actually, so I'll be sticking around.

I'm really terribly sorry.
I tend to be very obtuse without realising what I've posted might seem a little harsh and offensive to other people.
Even reading posts from ASD adults should give a parent some great insight and understanding about some of their children's behaviours and traits.

It must be nice having such a caring mum your son is very lucky to have you :)
You'd be surprised at the amount of people that refuse to admit it even exists, a lot of teenagers post on here about that sort of stuff and it's really sad how small minded some people are.

Hello lady from Scotland! I had an email conversation with this lady:
Dr. Judith Piggot, MBChB, MSc, PhD, MRCPsych

Tayside Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service Clinical Lead, Consultant Child And Adolescent Psychiatrist, Specialist Autism Spectrum Disorders,
Department of Child Health, Dudhope Terrace, Dundee.
[email protected]

She does social skills development work in the Tayside area.
Otherwise, Elizabeth Laugeson's videos about social skills are very helpful, especially if your daughter is glued to her ipad, she might like to watch some of them. I think they are on youtube with Alex from WrongPlanet.
My daughter is ten, she is glued to her tablet too, usually in bed under her duvet. On the plus side, I can get her to do quite a lot of things by threatening to put it on top of the wardrobe.
Enjoy your time here!

BTW, we live in the North of England and don't have a social worker, nor have we ever been offered one. And that's fine by me because I DEFINITELY wouldn't want one!
The council does have an ASD team though that is meant to help schools put together programmes etc for their autistic children. I've only spoken to our allocated lady once but she seems very helpful and nice. She is going to visit the school to take a look at our DD.

My goodness! I was in halls of residence with Judith Piggot back in the 80s when we were both students at Glasgow Uni.

Forgive me for bumping this thread, but I also a mum from Scotland.

I lurk here from time to time but likely will be doing that more as after 4 years of "is he or isn't he" and "should I push for a referall or shouldn't I" we are finally on the road to seeking a diagnosis. Now for the long wait!

I can't help with info on things in Inverness as I am in Edinburgh, but its nice to know there a few people on the forum from Scotland too :D
