Just a minor quibble about this part. If ones child's ideas and preferences are different from that of most people, this will not work. Many of my son's preferences for how he likes to be treated are far afield from what typical people prefer. This is not always the case, of course, but enough to where that kind of generalization would have confused my son tremendously, The hard part when you have a child without Theory of Mind is that it is hard for the child to know what other people would prefer and much of that may have to be explicitly taught.
(KraftieKortie's general point was on point, so I hope he takes no offense at my clarification. My son has severely lagging social skills which may not apply in this case.)
