Mother nature doesn't design anything.

If she did, she would have some serious 'splainin to do about, for example, neural tube defects.

What would mama natura say? "Anencephally is for lovers?"

This (from your cited article):

Quote:
The results, published last week (July 20) in Cell, revealed high levels of variation that mirror the Caucasian population as a whole, suggesting that recombination during meiosis generates a considerable amount of genetic diversity.

Does not say anything about "designing a society" it says there are lot of errors and repairs in cell division.

There is no compelling reason to think of autistic people as a human subgroup with some reproductive advantage over other groups. Rather, one might think of autism as the result of common mutations in many genes that are (perhaps in other forms) advantageous. For something like autism to not be selected out, it has to either occur frequently as a result of de novo mutation or be a the common result of multiple mutations of other genes-an idea which seems to be gaining support from the most recent large population GWAS analyses.

What subset of human beings are patient enough for visual communication instead of verbal communication?

I think this idea is deeply insulting to NTs. NTs and autistics are both quite capable of innovation, in both visual and verbal domains. Look at Deaf people, for example. Most are NT, but they had no trouble inventing a visual language.

As for written language, neuroscience is pretty clear on the fact that most brains code written words as verbal information, using much the same technique as they use to process speech (and ASL speakers use the same areas for ASL). Only at the earliest points of input and the last points of output do these different communication modes diverge.

Plus, autistics aren't inherently more patient than NTs. In fact, about 50% have ADHD as well as autism, which means they're a lot less patient than NTs. And there are plenty of extremely patient NTs, too.

hmmm most parents of my kiddo's friends have a love hate relationship with me...they love me because I understand their kids, I understand them, I take their kids out with mine and the kids flourish and behave extremely well, no meltdowns, nothing when they are with me...but HATE me because I continue to tell them to take a look at themselves, this is without a doubt, GENETICS...but of course, they are all in the "the government owes us money for damaging our kids" wagon or in the "shut the heck up, I am making money out of all these vitamins, supplements, cruel therapies, blah, blah, blah" ;-) PS I will continue to help their kids, as I do mine, to throw out the truth as much as I can.

PS I do believe that although autism is genetics, something ELSE is possibly hurting our kids because many do have weaker immune systems and therefore, cannot handle everything that they are given as a kid without a weak immune system...however, that is not the cause
