But why is he unhappy?

Because no one else in his class has to do that.
He's not super upset, just a little miffed.

Glad he is relatively ok and yes, it is frustrating not to be able to get things just as we want them. I am glad he is ok enough with this!

When I was in elementary school, I used to be dismissed 5 minutes before the rest of the kids as well. But that was only due to being on a special-ed route, which left before the hustle and bustle of the normal dismissal. I never had bus aides rudely forcing me out the door - actually, our district never had bus aides. I enjoyed it, actually. Now I just go at regular time as I have been on a full-sized bus route (in three different districts) since 8th grade.
Glad everything worked out - I know they have time requirements, but forcing you out the door like a dog is not OK.

Be glad they are letting him leave early to get to it if he's always late. Mine have gotten left by the bus several times. I had to go get them or if I didn't have a way they had to walk. They are strict about those times. Our buses pick up at the elementary school, the middle school and the high school. They start with the lower grades at about 2:40 and pick up at the high school at 3:05. You have about ten minutes to get to the bus and then they are leaving. They even leave the high school on time even though thats the last pickup and the only place they have to go is to drop people off. I think they are probably doing that five minutes early thing to make him see how it's important to get there on time and rush a little if he has to. Once he's able to get there on time they will probably stop that. Has he been bus left yet? Mine were furious when that happened. It has happened here at home too if they aren't out there when the bus comes by. It goes around the block and then turns to come out and even though they stop at the corner they usually won't pick up a kid who missed it going by and ran to the corner to catch it. It depends on the drive. We have had a great driver who they loved and I loved and who I sent a muffin to every morning because she was so nice and one who was horrible and left them and put one off before. She does that to lots of kids though.

I bet the SPED bus is not allowed to leave any kids stranded there. I bet that is why the driver made the aide come get him, and why they were so surly about the whole thing. If they could just leave him there, I think they would have done that.

I agree. And I think they'd have to supervise the sped kids if they weren't on the bus which could be a lot of work.
