welcome!

Our son was first dxed when he was five also, so I understand TOTALLY. He is 6 now and finishing up his last month of Kindergarten. As you already know, a lot of things don't get any easier, but other things do! This board is GREAT and everyone is always so helpful. You get insight from both sides which is tremendous!
My husband and I read countless books about discipline issues....nothing worked.
Yes! Yes! I think I've borrowed every book on parenting from the library + spent a fortune on parenting books. They didn't work.

Now with number 2 son diagnosed Aspie and number 1 suspected Aspie I know why!

Hi Angie! I'm brand new here, too...this is my first post. We recently got the AS diagnosis for our boy who just turned 6. We too suspected that he was always a bit 'different' and even though our doctor told us we could 'wait and see' how things panned out, we decided not to wait and had him assessed. Sure enough. We are also in the process of having our son evaluated at school to see what he qualifies for. It's overwhelming, isnt it? I'm reading some books to learn more, but sometimes that can be more of a curse than a blessing. You read about the things they can feel and go through as they get older and it's enough to break your heart. I'm lucky in the sense that my son's condition is considered mild, but it's hard to know exactly where he will fit in.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and that you are definitely not alone. It is nice to have a place like this to go to, and to read about others living with it. I am definitely of the firm belief that it's not a disability, just a different way of them looking at the world! Our little kids are amazing, aren't they? What minds!

Take care of yourself--I try to remember, a day at a time.
