I agree it would be best for you to have a place your son can retreat to until people leave, and let him know it is okay for him to do that. If it is someone he likes, you may find he will come out to see them of his own accord once he is used to the idea of having them there.

It is exactly like a cat hiding under the bed. If you harass the cat, it won't budge. If you leave it alone, once it feels comfortable it may eventually come out and jump on your lap.
Juliekitty, well put! You can't force cats or people to be sociable if they don't want to, especially aspies.

i dont like visitors, unannounced visitors are hellish. being warned far in advance doesnt work for me as i get overly anxious and end up being sick on the day they are due over. i need my warning that people are coming over to leave me enough time to tidy the house wash up hoover do the laundry have a shower and do my hair and makeup. so hubby now warns me on the morning they are coming or the afternoon before if its going to be an early visit. I still hate it especially if they come for a very short time or a very long time i hate 30 minute visits from people we know but i hate longer than 2 and a half hours . i need people to arrive at an exact arranged time if they arrive early or late i am seriously not happy.
