Abilify is some pretty powerful stuff. I remember once they gave it to me when I was checked in a hospital for a while, I threw up and got all trippy. I can't imagine what it could do to a small child. Personally I've found all the different therapies to be very beneficial to my son, and I don't think I'd ever go the medicine route after seeing what various meds did to my own health and well-being.

Mage I totally respect your opinioin, but we are all different on side effects. This has done nothing to change my son's personality, or his day to day functions, so it works very well for him.

I also HAD to pick this route as my son is 11 and has rages so bad I was worried he would be arrested some day and I can't have that. I physically have to restrain him sometimes, and now that he's older/bigger it's more important than ever.

My son was on Risperdal for violent rages for about 6 weeks. It didn't do much for him other than make him gain weight and shake a lot. He was still going into a rage at least once per day.

We've had much better luck with Adderal (to help him focus enough to avoid getting frustrated), moving him into a more restrictive classroom at school, and behavioral therapy sessions.

My son isn't on any medications. However my mother was taking this drug a few years back ( she has since passed away) and she hated it!
The change in her was obvious, she appeared out of it, she was I addmit easier to deal with/more complacent and such. But and its a huge but she said it made her head fuzzy, she was tired all the time, her speach was even a little slurred. Mum was taking this not because she was violent, she started to have hallucinations and to appear to become scizophenic (cant spell sorry) hence the intro to meds.
prior to all of this she was extremely intelligent and productive member of society. Complete personality change on meds though. I know a few (adult)people that have used this particular medication and all have said the same thing as my mother, all have hated it.
Personally I would stay right away from it and try anything or nothing else. More so because kids dont have the same ability to say what these meds are doing to them as an adult does. More so again because my understanding of aspie kids is that their ability to communicate what is going on personally within themselves can be greatly impaired.
These are just my opinions hope I didn't offend anyone.
