I absolutely can not tolerate pads. I get a physical aching the few times I had no choice. I tolerate a tampon (only because it's the lesser of two evils), but I have to change it often because I can feel it inside me the entire time and it is awful!! I guess I'm not really giving you any suggestions or help here, sorry. They do make very narrow, smaller tampons for young girls. You might want to try to prepare her and let her try both when the time comes.

I think tampons are better than pads and less bother to dispose of (they can usually be flushed down the toilet) but it's important for a girl to be taught how to insert them because if they do it the wrong way, it can be uncomfortable.

well the best I han hope for it that she will be able to use something.......my mother recommended using old tshirts cut into pads.she said that before there were pads ladies used very soft clothes almost like cloth diapers.......more difficult to get rid of and or launder but prolly a lot softer up against the body..........thank goodness I have a few more years to think about the options....thanks for the advise though...
Is anyone finding that girl things are harder as an Apie?? I am having issues with her right now about make up and perfume and girly things.....she wants to use them but has to have everything all natural and or Hypoalergenic.....cause she says she can feel the bad stuff in the lip gloss and it makes her sick.......but she also wants to be a regular girl and have pretty things.....I get a lot of Almay and things at the Health food stores....like all natural lip stick.....

about the boys underwear that the Original Poster was worried about......Haines now makes a seamless tagless all cotton boxer brief. it still has the Y front but it is only for show/just plain stitching....

You guys are awesome! :D
J cant tolerate any seams even decorative stitching. He wont wear sweat pants, he says they are itchy! I have talked to about 6 different OT's and a surgical urologist to see if anyone had ideas. The next step will have to be sensory intergration therapy, as soon as I can get the budget into order thats where we will be going. I had no idea just how expensive AS can be. lol :?
Thanks again ever one.

I feel his pain. I refused to wear underwear as a child. Nothing in the world compared to the horrid experience of that sensation. When my parents forced me to wear them, I would get to school and flush them down the toilet. Later, I would throw them all away. Once they caught onto that and started checking the garbage, I took a scissors to every pair in my drawer. My mother must have spent a small fortune in underwear. I wasn't trying to be a rotten kid...but I cannot adequately convey to you the sensory hell that underwear caused me. Nothing in this world even comes close to comparing to that. I don't really like anything touching my body closely, even now.

Tell me about it.. i havent worn underwear since i was like 6 or something... never will.

my sister swears she's not an Aspie, but she even wears her sweats inside out because the outside is softer than the inside. And neither one of us, nor my son, could even think about wearing a turtleneck!! I can't feel like I'm being held down or smothered. I'm even "claustrophobic" when the sky is too overcast. I feel like I'm in a dark, heavy snowglobe or something and I can't get out. The thought makes me shudder!

It would be far cheaper to just get him the kind of clothes that he finds comfortable.

My son likes the Hanes comfortsoft tagless boxer briefs. They are super soft.

A suggestion for the lady looking for ideas about pads/tampons. You could try something like Glad Rags. They are soft flannel cotton pads that are reusable. They are very, very soft and non-irritating.

I'm not sure if they are still avaliable in boy's sizes these days, but back in the eighties, when I was about your son's age, I was up against the same issue, and I persuaded my mom to get me the European style men's briefs. I wore mostly the Jockey Elance style briefs like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Jockey-Elance-3-P ... _a_title_4

I also was bothered by the seam in the crotch too, and also by the wide elastic waistbands that are common on just about all men's underwear. Even the European style briefs avaliable today now have the wide waistbands like American style "tightie whitie" briefs with the fly front. I stopped wearing underwear on a regular basis, and today, rarely ever do, but to appease mom, I wore these whenever she insisted.

I like underwear that's easily washable for some reason, like bathing suit material. :)

My son had the same issue about underwear.

The only way we could solve it was to not wear underwear.

My 10 year old has been "Free Ballin'" for a couple of years now

The last time my son complained about his underwear it turned out he was constipated. He was feeling pain in the same place as the elastic, so he assumed it was the elastic, but it was actually not.

Be careful to eliminate all potential causes of discomfort in the area.

Sorry if I'm repeating - haven't read the whole thread.
