You just got the diagnosis? I didn't realize.... maybe I came on a bit strong, if so, sorry.

Were you prepared for the diagnosis? Starting out with schedules ect. is a handfull. WP is full of good advice, I've got heaps of help here.

Sorry to be so slow in responding! A lot of stressful stuff piling on me at the moment and I went anti-social. Bad tendency of mine.

Runt: Didn't mean to sound condescending, I over emphasize sometimes, and be careful if you are new to the internet and forums, it is easy to read malice in things that none was intended. Nothing negative was intentional.

katrine: Information is good, don't worry about the strength, and I did not take any offense. I had a hint from someone I talk to on a game about it, and spent a month researching it before I took him to the doctor, so I wasn't surprised. What did surprise me was how much of the criteria I, personally, meet. So, that was a bit of a blow and revelation at the same time. So, after we got our referral, I spent another month researching and hanging out in the chat room here.

As an aspie parent of a kid on the spectrum, I am all about the lists and clearly communicating steps/expectations. I really like the velcro/magnet idea for movable items. Thanks everyone!

Detren - I'm a divided plate person and I eat all of one thing before moving on to the next, don't drink with the meal, and other quirks. I find that I escalate my food behaviors (eating in alphabetical order, only eating white foods, only using 1 'safe' spoon, eating alone) when I feel stressed about other things. Since much of my life feels out of control, how/what I eat is something I can control. Maybe your child is doing that too. I hope you guys can work out a happy medium.

ps. When I got married, my mother bought me a set of cafeteria trays as a housewarming present. Indestructible and lots of compartments!
