I'm almost certainly on the spectrum, probably aspergers, and have an 8 year old boy who is somewhere on spectrum, but not diagnosed because after 3 weeks of trying school, ( age 5), he never wanted to go again and so he hasn't suffered the barrage of pigeon-holing etc that school tends to indulge in.

We took him to speech therapists for a couple of months but were told they couldn't diagnose him because he didn't respond to their "material"; picture cards etc. 8O :?

Being aspie myself, and now that he talks, ( he was worryingly/frighteningly late; 5 years old before he managed any more than massively badly pronounced ( most people couldn't understand him) telegraphese speech), we understand each other and we do our thing, in harmony, so that's ok.

Most likely. Nothing firmly confirmed, but suspected in many in the family.

Yep, not a single neurotypical person in this house. Not even the cat.

Highly likely although not formally diagnosed.

Not sure about partner and kids, still coming to terms with myself but having suspicions about my 9yr old son

PS: Have just started a support thread for AS parents in the Members Only Forum at:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt66773.html

It seems as if AS parenting experience is, inevitably when think about it, profoundly different from NT, and as the Parent's forum is mostly to do with the AS children it doesn't get covered much or recognised as much as might be helpful/affirming. So ... new thread to scream/share on. :D

No, I don't even have kids.

I am just still close enough to childhood to remember what it is like to not be able to communicate to my parent's. I could talk, they just didn't quite understand what I meant. I am also in my Senior year in college and learning how to live life on my own. Granted I have issues with it (like the vaccum - noise), but I am doing well, now.

So I think I might give some sort of light at the end of the tunnel for those parent's that have hard days. I may be 23, but I will graduate college in another year (I've changed majors twice). I've held my job now for almost 2 years. I have my own apartment. I have a boyfriend. I don't really have friends, but that is mainly because I don't have time to devote to finding and keeping them (work and school).

I've also been doing research on Asperger's. I have to limit it, because I need to do homework, but it's a driving interest right now.
