why people who don't believe in God or pray, etc. feel ...
I have to wonder, what kind of Christian do all of you see in me? I love to argue the points when I get the chance, but I also know that I will never get anywhere with it. I like questioning my faith and find it to be extremely healthy to do so. Pursuit of knowledge should not be seen diverting from my faith. I love my science, and I love my God, and I find that the two compliment each other wonderfully.
Where was I? Oh yeah. I do care if you don't believe in my God, but only from the perspective that I wish everyone were going to my afterlife. Since you do not believe in my after life though, this is not a particularly motivating thing. My God is not your God, and for the reason why, I don't know, nor do I want to know as that is between you and my God.
The gay thing is purely political and has nothing whasoever to do with religion but everything to with churches and governments.
I think I get what you are saying.
That's a complete lie! We've never claimed that violas, stringed musical instruments similar to violins, were the product of natural revolution. That's a vile misrepresentation of our views. Everyone knows that violas are man-made, I've even seen videos of them being made by craftsmen, not random mutations. For YOU to EVEN sugGEST THIS is RIDICULOUS!! ! I CAN'T believe YOU! ANGER OUT OF CONTROL!! HULK SMASH!! ! CAPS LOCK!! !! ! UNNGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!

I am always curious why people who don't believe in God or pray, etc. feel the need to ridicule those that do, get so offended that we hold those beliefs and talk, with authority, about God when they don't even believe in God? Why does it threaten you that I pray, that it helps me in my life, why must you tell me I am wrong? You said in some post that when I pray it is not God I am praying to...How the heck do you know? I know...because you can't see it, there's no evidence. Well I don't happen to believe that.
Why can't you just let me have my belief and I let you have yours. I am not one of those Christians who condemn those who aren't so why must you condemn me for believing? Why is it so scary to you that I or anyone thinks there is a God? and why do you care? You must be a Christopher Hitchens fan huh?
Live and let live
Why can't people who believe in God allow gays and lesbians to have a life of love and fufillment together?
Many do. You can't blanket that statement.

You're a Christian? Well, fancy that!
I never would have known ... then again, unless someone whacks me upside the head with a hard-bound Cokesbury, I'd never even think to guess that he or she might be a Christian!

Is it so awful that I don't follow your religion?
Does it really make someone a bad person for believing in a physical universe without also believing that there is a meta-physical reason for it being here?
Why are my requests for repeatably verifiable evidence for what you believe in met with both ridicule and hyperbole?
When I say "Evidence, Please?" it does not mean that I'm calling you out as a liar - it only means that I'm requesting repeatably verifiable proof of the claims you make, that's all.
By definition, "faith" cannot be proved with tangible evidence. Faith means to believe in the absence of proof, so those of us with faith will never be able to provide evidence that will be to your satisfaction. As the little child in the original "Santa Claus" movie says, "just because you've never seen a million dollars, doesn't mean it isn't real."
I feel that God has proved himself to me, albeit in an intangible way. It isn't something I can convey to anyone else. It's intensely personal.
What I'm tired of is being told it's a crutch, or that only the ignorant can believe. That IS demeaning. To my intelligence AND to my ability to reason and form my own conscious. The acquisition of faith was not something I came to lightly. I don't expect anyone else to buy into it, but I ask you to RESPECT it.

I have been forced into unbelief. I used to belief. Had those little tiny bony knees down on my floor asking Jesus into my heart. Thank you Jesus! Really believed.
Then one hting happened after another- no help from above or below. And on and on it went. Then PTSD hit which made no sense of anythuing. Again, on every pivtal point where I needed help to prevent things getting really b ad, there was not even a peep. I might as well have b been an atheist from the beginnig. I might as well have been anything else.
I watched my family suffer because of the trauma I endured. I watched the kids suffer, the relatives.....in short, my faith caused me to be the target of evil people who used my real faith to my own destruction. And when I needed a god to help me, none were there.
Now if I hear scripture I literally feel like I am going to vomit.
If you force me to read the Bible I might do things that are unbecomming.
If I am forced to hear someone preach I can go into a rage.
If I pray to God to help me through a ser vice that I must attend it only makes it worse.
I can't conclude anything other than God is not there or he hates me. There is no reason for him to hateme so he must not be there.
This idea that God is Love is all powerful and yet we suffer so? I cannot see it.
I resepct those who do, but that is how I cam e to no believe.
Oh My goodness! Sorry I asked a simple question. I wasn't aiming to offend -if whoever wanted to report me for what? - go ahead if it will make you feel better... geez.. I said nothing defamatory, nothing worse than anyone has said on these boards.
It was stupid of me to ask it - religion is to much of a personal, hot button issue. It's not one I really wanted to debate - I did get some answers though. SOrry for the big uproar. I will stick to questions about Aspergers from now on.

DW, forgive me for being blunt, but this is exactly the kind of hyperbole I was referring to. It would be easier and more to-the-point to say, "I don't know how to prove it, and I don't think that it can be proven."
I respect any other person's ability to reason intelligently. Unfortunately, reason does not arise solely from subjective experience, but also from objective evidence.
Faith is the irrational belief in improvable concepts or ideas. And by "irrational" I do not mean "stupid" or "insane" - certainly not! I mean that faith is the end-product of non-rational thinking, which relies solely on subjective experiences and personal feelings. Sad to say, but this often leads to delusional thinking.
Faith can also be the result of any two events that have only a single reference frame in common. For instance, if a person prays for rain for six straight days and it rains on the seventh, then they are likely to have the irrational belief ("Faith") that their prayers alone provided the rain, regardless of the fact that a storm front has been moving in from over the ocean for the last ten days.
Many so-called "Signs, Miracles, and Wonders" - upon critical examination - reveal only a natural chain of causes and events leading up to them. Unfortunately, critical examination and revelation of the reality behind the myth also reveals that the faith-filled person was not only unaware of the natural events leading up to the alleged sign, miracle, or wonder but that they also refuse to believe that those natural events ever occurred in the first place!
I am sorry if this offends you, but this is what I believe in, and only because I can repeatedly verify the facts and causal events, and arrive at the same inescapable conclusion. That is, the natural universe does not seem to require the existence of a super-natural agent to make things happen.
So, I offer a deal: Don't slam me for my beliefs, and I won't slam you for yours. Our beliefs seem to have arisen from two different sources - yours from an examination of personal experiences and feelings, and mine from an examination of impersonal events and facts.
Other than that ... Merry Christmas!

I am sorry to hear your story.
I wish it had all been different for you. If I could make it so, I would. But I can't. I don't know how, and I don't know why things have been for you as they are.
There really isn't anything else to say, is there?

Well, if you are going to define irrational THAT way, I'll have to accept it
In common usage, irrational is intended as a slight. More like crazy than simply not based in tangible rationale. But I'll accept you don't mean it that way.
We're good.

It's religion, one of the strong topics. Lot of people are black and white in this aspie or not, lot of them think they are right, they are very narrow and rigid in their beliefs, they feel attacked if someone doesn't have the same beliefs as them so they feel they have to defends themselves by ridiculing that other person.
I wish everyone can get along and respect other people's beliefs and religion. Not shove it in their face and try and get others to beleive what they believe in.
If people want to beleive in god, that is their choice. My own choice is to not beleive in it. I just don't see how it's possible that someone can create people and land etc but what about the dinosaurs? That is left out in the bible and there has been proof dinosaurs did exist. Also about revolution and how earth may have been formed. The bible never said anything about god creating other planets and the sun. It just doesn't add up what the bible says and what scientists have said.
I don't believe the Bible was written to be a history or science book. The history in it has been condensed into instructional fables, not literal time lines. I was taught to read the point in the story, to look for the lesson. That is where the word of God is.
I know some believe the book is meant to be literal, but that isn't universal. Catholics, for example, are NOT taught to take the Bible literally, and Catholicism is the largest organized church.
You may, of course, believe or not believe as you wish.
