One thing that does bother me is when people refer to their AS children or spouses as "my aspie." I don't mean to offend anyone who has said this, but it really bugs me. People with Asperger's are not pets (or objects, as the OP mentioned)!

There are times when I can check WrongPlanet five times a day, and then five or six days will go by, and I've been dealing with the school, and birthdays, and church, and work, and making sure my kids have friends to come over, and just life in general. By the time I get back onto WrongPlanet, I've either forgotten that I asked a question, or I'm having a senior moment and can't even FIND the thread where I asked a question!

Check out the AARP discounts Goku is handing out. I intend to use mine, I need all the help can get, and not just financially.

Thanks Goku, I do appreciate it

You could get a job as a professional chat room person because:

1. You give great advice.
2. You are very funny
3. I've found you very supportive of my family in our various posts

Is there such a job? Let's lateral think here. I don't know enough about computes to know what possibilities there are.

Kilroy, are you thinking of working in computing? It seems like it's something you love.

Can you work from home? That also sounds like it would suit you (but I could be wrong)

Smelena

I don't know but it sounds like a good idea :D

I an understand how it rubs you the wrong way,I am not sure if I have done it or not...
 oh no, I just caught myself reading over another thread! Something to consider when writting, as I don't mean it as if he is "property"!

I think though, that these same people would say "my husband" or "my son" in lieu of "my aspie" funny how that does not sound nearly as "possessive". I think it would be better to say "my husband who has aspergers" or "my son with aspergers". Just it is so long it gets shortened to "my aspie". Then again why do people need to constantly refer to their family members DX? Why can't they just say "my son" "my husband" and from what they are saying, most people would understand that this individual that they speak of, has AS?

I think other people use it almost as a term of endearment perhaps? Instead of saying "my sweetie" or something else, they substitute in "apsie", it is kind of strange. However, on the other board I see people refer to themselves as "aspies" all the time or other people as such "hey, are there any Aspies here with...." I think this is partly responsible too.

Too each his own, sometimes I think everyone here just dissects the "little things" way too much!

Wow. I am going to be one of those moms who come post a question and wait for an answer. I do not have the time to read everything or to post back comments. I will try to do updates as I can, but I barely feel like I am keeping my nose above water on most days. I think this forum is wonderful. There are some great people here and we can definitely all learn from each other. Please forgive me ahead of time because I know I will mess up and say stupid things and I have no clue about forum ettequite (sp?). Sure wish I could visit with all of you face to face! *sigh*

update: trying new med for son, trying to hook up with advocates to help with school, figuring out how to educate family, trying to work up the nerve to make an appointment with Dr. for myself (suspecting ADD, and not coping well at all right now :P )

I wish the best for all of you!
