My 3 yo got away and took a walk in the street!

My sons are flight risks. We have applied for a grant so we can fence in a portion of our yard. Because they are both 2.5 and both have ASD, it is extremely hard to keep an eye on both of them.

I think running is typical behavior, but running and not looking back or not caring if you are being followed is what my kids do.

My son will walk or run awy from me if he thinks he can get awy, basically if I take my eye off him for a second. If I call after him, he will keep running. In comparrison to his 6 yo brother (when he ws 3) or even his 1 1/2 yo sister, he is much much more likely to run away. My other 2 stayed close enough to me when we went out, I guess the logic was, if they needed protection, they wanted to know that they could reach me easilly. I don'y know about all ASD children. but my son is more prone to running off in comparson to his siblings.

My NT 3yo doesnt do this, neither did my ASD son at that age, but he was more prone to take off when he was about 15 months, DD was about 2, but has outgrown it fast, I told her she had to be in a carriage or held if she kept runninng, OR I would say, ,"Bye Miranda", and walk away, and she was right back by my side, so it was short lived with her! My ASD son (now 6) is more prone to wander, like in a store and decides to look at something, he will just wander away.
