My son has meltdowns too but not to this extent. In addition to Asperger's, he has "voices". He has never reacted to them and we are not really sure exactly what they are. He just tells us when they are happening and it casues him stress, and us too. However, one of his docs was not sure if they were just unconscious thoughts or a real problem so he put my son on meds to control them. This helps them stay at a minimum or become non-existent.. However, when the meds get a little off, he is a little more anxious. He will tell us if the voices are causing him to want to act out. Has your son ever mentioned anything about "voices" telling him to lash out? Has he ever been tested for a psychosis NOS? I am not a Doctor but I do know a few people with Asperger's and have been told that meltdowns are part of the syndrome to an extent. However, if your son is violent to the extreme than he might need to be re-evaluated. I hope this helps and does not offend.
