Hiya everyone,

Hope noone at WP minds me posting this, if so, please delete! Apologies

Just wanted to brag a bit!! Proud mum time and all of that!! Hope none of you mind? This is my son David aged now 14yrs with a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome who only 4yrs ago was told by his primary school teacher that he was tone deaf in music, couldn't hold a note. He was a lonely lad who had no friends and no hopes or dreams, just hung his head low and seemed unhappy most of the time. But with some TLC from our jelibean methods, plenty of nurturing and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (which we did on our own!!) this is the new David polished and shiny!! He only picked up a guitar a year ago....a 3 stringed battered old guitar of my older son. He has had NO lessons, he just plugs in and plays. He did this for some very special friends at Marshall Amplification who have been wonderfully supportive.....I hope you enjoy it, it always brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat.

It aint all bad on the spectrum folks.......actually it can be amazing if you just know what to expect and how to deal with it..........David openly talks about his Aspergers Syndrome, Dyspraxia and little eccentricities...but without them, he would not in my opinion be able to play the way he does. Ooh and by the way, he just 'made this up as he went along', pure improvisation to Purple Rain. And yes he knows I am posting this, he hopes that it will enable others to see that the spectrum is not as scary as it may seem, there is life after diagnosis....LOTS OF IT!! ! He enjoys and accepts being on the spectrum, he accepts that he is obsessional about music (he practices 12hrs day)....but I can't stop him, wish I could. Folk tell me not to push him? 8O I only wish sometimes I could STOP HIM!!

Thanks for indulging me. I just wanted you to know that EVERY single one of these children has a special interest....somewhere.......find it and unlock it.........you allow that child to at last openly communicate through whatever it is they find so much passion. For David it is music and the guitar. And by the way he is a really nice lad with it! But then I am biased

There's nothing wrong with being proud of someone you love. I enjoyed the video of him playing. He's a cutie, I'll bet there are plenty of girls at school with a secret crush. My son hears music in his head and seems to have a natural ability;he figured out Jingle Bells by ear on my mother's piano and was able to get a good tone the first time he blew on a tuba but he listens to no music. He's starting band when 6th grade starts; I hope it will kick start something. I hope my son gets to a good self perception like your son!

He is so cute!

I have a nephew with aspergers who plays several instruments. He can’t stand to be taught, he just has to play on his own and he is always amazing. He just got a violin from his grandmother two weeks ago, and he’s already fiddling away, never even playing a string instrument before (that I know of) He plays sax mostly, but also piano, and my ol’ flute. And he just picks it up! It seems so easily. And yet, his real passion is art. He is constantly drawing and sketching. Unbelievable talent in that boy.

Makes you really wonder. But yes, your boy has that concentration and look at that smile on his face :) Love it :)

:D :D Awwww THANK YOU SOOO MUCH EVERYONE. Glad you all loved his improvisation of Purple Rain! He just made it up on the spot!! He loves being an Aspie, as without it could he play like this? After a year? I am not sure

There are huge benefits being on the spectrum if you know where to look and how to get the best out of any child or adult for that matter. Our Jelibean methods have helped tremendously. 5yrs ago he was desperate, stuck in his own world with nothing to look at except the floor.........he had no concept of the reality of anyone else's existance and his future looked gloomy. See what happens when you nurture and care for these kids...............I AM SOOOOO PROUD!! ! :D If anyone wants to know HOW we did it, check out our website, we work for free and happy to help anyone with indiviudual problems. We just work because we LOVE THE SPECTRUM :D www.jelibean.com/

Bless ya all for your lovely positive comments. David has already been spotted by the Music Giants Marshall Ampification and they have been totally wonderful and so supportive. Lucky boy was taken behind the scenes at Knebworth, Sonisphere this year youtube of his piccies!! I think some of you may recognise a famous Iron Maiden drummer!! Metallica stole the show apparently! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSIiPhbq ... annel_page
........an experience of a lifetime. He has been told he has a great future. So pm me if you want front row seats

For those who kindly wanted to see more, here is November Rain, Master of Puppets and Crazy Train, hope you enjoy!! Remember he has only been playing ONE YEAR!! That is the beauty of the Spectrum!
