That's just one of Genie's lines from KOT. I'm horrible at titles.

However, I know that this part of the forum is for parents, but I myself would like to...say one thing.

It may sound odd, I know, but...I would like to ask of parents everywhere who have kids with AS, to never call us stupid, tell us we need to come back to reality, that we need to mature, about our likes, interests, or routines. Many things among these lines, my parents have always said to me. I have come to think, even, that they were right, and that I was going insane. Eventually I would lose touch with reality completely, and begin living in the world of my books, my cartoons, my movies. They'll never tell me just why they said these things. I've always been teased a lot, by many people. None of it, though, has ever hurt like my parents' words or the looks they give me. They still do, actually. I think it would have made quite a big difference in my life, if my parents would have understood me better.

I am really hopeful for my son's generation of AS kids, because parents DO understand a lot more than in previous generations. It must be very hard to get criticized for honestly doing your best, yet one of the difficult things about AS is those afflicted have always appeared more capable than they are, at least when it comes to so many daily living things. I know my father battled that in his childhood. But my son doesn't have to; we "get" it. Certain things that seem easy to us are very hard for him, and the fact that he has amazing gifts in other areas doesn't change the reality of the deficits.

Same. Even when told by countless professionals, they still have no idea what AS is or that I have it..
