The last time I took my daughter to the gastroenterologist he spent a long time feeling her breasts and suggested I take her to a pediatric endocinologist for pediatric thelarchy (premature boob development) and suggested that she may be unusually sensitive to estrogen. At the time, after watching him feel her up, I could not help but agree the child had boobs. However, as we continued with the gluten free diet (we had been giving her a cracker a day for that month so he could test for celiac) her bloating slimmed down and she seemed to grow into her boobs. Once the celiac test came back negative we started trying to reintroduce foods. When we tried soy she immediately got bloated (that night in the tub we noticed it) and the next day I swear her boobs had grown back WITH STRETCH MARKS!! !! This was about 10 days ago. We haven't given her soy since, and the boobs are receding again.
Her birthday is tomorrow and the gluten free place i ordered the cupcakes from puts soy in the icing. should I flip out or consider this our second "challenge"?
Is there enough estrogen in soy to explain the breast development or am I just being crazy?
Her appointment with the endocrinologist is coming up in December (everyone has waiting lists around here). I was, until very recently, thinking about canceling it as the boobs were going away. Should I still go even if there are no obvious breasts?
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I have no idea what is going on and I would keep your appointment as part of the effort to find out.

I asked my husband if he knew answers for some of your questions on soy, since he is soy sensitive and has done some reading on it, but he couldn't help.

Sorry I can't say more, but this issue is one I haven't read before here.

There might be. It's a main ingredient in some herbal products that are supposed to help with symptoms of menopause in place of hormone replacement therapy. I think I'd have her stay away from anything with soy in it until that appointment. I avoid it myself, because first I've always hated the taste of soy beans, so I can't imagine they're a food my body needs. I also noticed that anything like that increased my hot flashes during menopause -- I'm of the mindset that it's best to just eliminate estrogen asap during menopause, and have done with it. :P

I hope the problems subside and the specialist can provide answers.
