"Meeting" other teens with similar interests.

My son is 16. I would like to find others in our area (Southern Louisiana, USA) that might have similar interests. He loves the Spiderwich Chronicles, ogres, fairies, mermaids, Spyro.. He loves to read and swing. There are many other interests too. I am hoping for a "friend", that he might be interested in socializing with.

This is a tough one, and best worked out locally. Has he shown any interest in games like Dungeons and Dragons or WarHammer? No faires, but there are elves and goblins and orcs. The advantage with either of those is that you may be able to find small game stores that organize events, or other kids at school who play them.

Does he like other people?

I haven't tried those games with him. I don't know if he knows about them. Thank you. That definitely could be a starting point.
He tolerates people because they usually don't talk about what he likes to talk about-work in progress.
