Ds has been seeing a psychologist for a few months and he recommended going through the school district to get some evals done for services which is fine. I have filled out the paperwork and have had records from the psychologist sent to the school. The school psychologist will have to meet with Cole and then they will compare notes and start testing. Then the school said he will likely have to see their psychiatrist on top of us taking him to a seperate psychiatrist that specializes in autism that the private psychologist would like him to see. We don't pay for the schools services but it seems like a waste that we have to do everything twice instead of the school using the info we get from another source. We know we are looking at an IQ test and he will work with a speech therapist. I spoke with the Director of Special Services at the school yesterday and she was nice enough to speak to Cole. Right away she picked up on things he said (right away she knew he was a bright kid) and felt that maybe he is bored with school since it is too easy--he is homeschooled. The problem is that he struggles with subjects and will fail one day but does great the next day without me explaining anything??? He has taught himself math and is great at reading comprehension. So what should we expect from a school eval? I am also nervous because he is homeschooled and although I have a college degree the things Cole excels at I don't do so well in and dh does not have the time to teach him. I talked about having him go to school part time and that looks like a possibility. It is safe to say I am lost right now and don't know what to expect next!

Uh I don't have an advice but just can relate to the thing where my son's learning process is a mystery to me and his teachers. He just comprehends something easily while other things can't even after prolonged teaching and explaining. He seems to learn better by understaning the whole concept than doing sequential/step like learning (that is typically done in schools).
