my 2 children (aged 11 with autism, 7 with aspergers) have recently started school after being home educated. They spend all their time out of school extremely grumpy and scream nearly constantly.

It makes me very sad as I miss them while they are in school and want to enjoy the time I have with them, not have it be a misery. Im very sound sensitive and the noise is really getting me down.

Any advice welcome :D

Do they have vocal tics? My son screams a lot, but it is not voluntary. He tries very hard to control this in public. It seems to be a torrent of screaming and other tics when he's at home and able to "relax".

You have my sympathy, I should imagine this is hell for you.

I don't know what you should do or can do.
Is this a special school or regular primary school?

I won't tell you how bad I felt about school at age 7.

I hope things improve for all of you soon.

as far as I know its not vocal tics, just venting frustration.

yes absolute hell.

I hated school too, which is why I home educated, but the social worker wanted me to send them to school, the kids were not happy at home either but were happier than they are now :?

The 11 year old is in a specialist autism school and the 7 year old is in a mainstream school with an autism unit. Both have teaching assistants and lots of help.

My 11 year old is getting loads of sensory problems and screaming about how the clothes feel :(

Did they scream when you sent them to school buildings?
And did their screaming start not long after you did that?

they have always screamed when they are cross and have bad days, but since they started school (4 weeks for the 7 year old, 1 week for the 11 year old), they have been screaming and being agressive nearly all the time.

They are not screaming in school but behaving quite well, with just a few tantrums.

Poor kids. Sounds like they are doing their best to keep it together at school.

Im going to try doing some meditation with them this week, see if it helps calm them.

Since the social worker seems to believe this is a great idea, I guess you have to allow for a long adjustment period, in case the social worker is right. But, really, it sounds to me like the kids are being stressed by being in school outside the home. The behavior issues tend to show up worst where the child feels safe: which is at home. If it does not improve soon I would talk to the social worker about how the change is stressing your kids, and making home life difficult.
