:D Thought I would kick off (scuse, but everyone here is very excited about the World Cup - groan! I am a woman!)

Tired of searching for shoes with VELCRO? Want the flexibility of laces but not the aggro that goes with it?

If you want to buy LACED shoes, simply substitute the laces for elastic whichever colour matches your shoes or trainers :D Then when they slip the shoes on the laces expand. and yes you can do the laces up permanently this way! How kool is that and I can vouch for it, it has come in very handy for my son who now has lace up shoes for school, you can't really get many velcro fastenings in a UK size 12 ADULT! Yes he is only 14 8O

Hope that helps some of you. Do feel free to contribute some more, I am sure we have all found ways to make life a bit easier :D

We buy the tri-athlete bungee laces. They look cool with many shoe styles and adjust fast and easy. Can be ordered from the web. I'd be a little worried with regular elastic that the other kids might notice and make something out of it. With the tri-athlete version, I figure my son has a "cool" hook.

But, some shoe styles would definitely look better with flat elastic.

Ooh that's interesting, I have never heard of those in the UK, so I am off to check on the net.

Anyone got any great ideas for stimming toys? Not bought ones, homemade strong durable ones :D

Something you could make at home would be two pieces of wood screwed together loosely so you could move one around the other with your fingers. Not sure if I'm describing that well, but it's the sort of thing I love to play with.

My all time favorite fiddling toys, which are pretty durable if you get plastic, are small slinkies.

zoobs

like legos, but with joints.
can be made into fidget toys (similar to what willaful is describing)
make neat cranking sound when twisted, for kids who like to stim that way.
can be sorted by type or color (for kids who like to sort)
can be used to build toys relating to child's special interest.
putting together and pulling apart is a great fine-motor building activity.
can be used to make arrangements -great for kids who need practice following directions.
